1. SHORT 1. DAY 3. PAGE 9.

I’m getting better at this, I swear.

  2. SHORT 1. DAY 2. PAGE 5.

  3. I’ve got a new script coming.

WELL, I’m not sure how I’m going to track my progress for this one. I’ve got 4 short scripts to write separately that’ll be combined into one full-length. I could just do that. Update each one separately.

    SHORT 1. DAY 1. PAGE 3.

  4. REWRITING IS KINDA HARD WHEN NOBODY’S READ YOUR SCRIPT. SHIT.

  5. AND I SUBMITTED A SCRIPT TO DCSHORTS FESTIVAL. I HOPE I GOT IN. I HOPE I WIN. I HOPE THEY THINK I’M THE BEST SCREENWRITER THEY’VE EVER SEEN.

  6. HEY GUYS, I’M REWRITING A SCRIPT I WROTE LATE LAST SUMMER ISN’T THIS GREAT

  7. Listening to The Breeders while I rewrite was a good idea.

  8. Let the rewriting commence!

  9. Fuck it. I’m going to shoot something today.

Just finished a new script. 3 pages.

  11. I feel weird not writing. I still need time to breathe before I jump back in to rewrite. Give myself some time to be able to look at it with fresh eyes, and all that jazz.

  12. I’m easily distracted.

I really don’t want this little piece of paper.

I start shooting my third short film next weekend.

I really should start the rewrite process on this feature, figure out what it is that needs fixin’.

I should start figuring out what script I’m going to write next.

I should figure out if I really want these sock puppets for my short film next weekend.

I should go to sleep early tonight.

I really don’t want this little piece of paper that I’ll frame and forget about and lose during moving.

I really don’t want to finish this thing and just go live my life.

I should go to sleep early tonight.

I should read the rest of Anansi Boys before I go to sleep.

  13. Good News, Everyone!

I found my notebook. Turns out I just forgot it in my room.

Also, I can’t read my screenplay yet because I just finished it and need to step away from it for a bit. Too traumatizing to read through the trainwreck after just finishing the trainwreck of a first draft.

Since I have two storylines happening, I’m thinking in the next few drafts I play with the idea of completely separating the two instead of intertwining them.

That’s for next time. Now, to watch Walking Dead, go to sleep, wake up in the morning, and hate everyone at work. Buh-bye now.

I try as hard as I can to not do the writing, to let the character do the writing. And what I mean by that is that for a long time you’ll be imposing your own will or maybe your own ideas on something that you love to do. Perhaps you think, “I’d love to do a car chase,” you know. So you can create some cockamamie story, you know, to get this character into a car chase but inevitably, hopefully, the character will just sort of like talk back at you and say, “I don’t want to be in this car chase. I never would’ve made a choice to begin with that would’ve gotten me into this car chase.” So hopefully you’re getting into a state of kind of autohypnosis, where the characters are kind of doing, making choices, and things are happening to them that can eventually formulate a story.
